This is the first time I’ve ever done this. Hah! It was a challenge to try to summarize an entire year in just a bunch of photos but I think I got it right. Lots of challenges but lots of fun too.
An actual Scrabble word
My first time to actually see all 7 letter tiles be used in one turn and it’s the first word of the game! Too bad it wasn’t mine. LOL. Oh well. I almost caught up near the end then PJ puts down “kid” with K on the double letter score. Boooo! 😛
Our lifetime tally: Macy – 2, PJ – 1. Until the next game!
“Last December” by Gabriel Lynch

I know nothing about this guy except that he’s an independent musician on an Asian tour that includes the Philippines. He played at Conspiracy, 70’s Bistro, and The Bar at 1951 in Malate. After hearing this song, I can say that he’s a brilliant independent musician.
Despite what I post, it’s not always happy in paradise. At present, I’m stuck between a master’s degree that I don’t have the drive to finish but have to somehow because I don’t have the money to pay the funding agency’s fine for not finishing (all the money DOST ever gave me + 12% interest) and a job that I genuinely love but want more out of. There are the good days and then there are the bad ones. Lately, it seems like the bad days are overwhelming the good ones. Then I remember that I have friends and loved ones who love me and care for me and will be there for me despite the distance.
Describe a picture perfect day to me
Tell me all about the beauty in the things you’d see
Recount your favourite moments from the past
Leave nothing out and save the sweetest bits until last
And try to remember all the detail
And find new meaning in a joke even though the punchline failed
Well the future’s so demanding
And it’s hard enough today
Every month feels like December while we wait and try to find another way
So while we reminisce about the times that it all when wrong
We’ll keep on looking for a sign
We’ll pause while you recollect your thoughts
While you find the place that your story got cut short
And I will sit in silence while you do
Then I’ll describe a picture perfect day to you
But we’re strong now more than ever and there’s nothing they can say
And we’ll make it like December, just you wait
We’re going to find another way
A night on the (El Nido) town
Mavic and I got to stay out in El Nido town last night with some friends from UP MSI. YAHOOO!!! Thank you to Ate Mags, Fleur, Kuya Mel, and Renmar for letting us crash with them last night (hey, I did help somewhat in making the cages :D). It was a great night filled with food, friends, and alcohol. I crashed earlier than everybody else because I had to wake up at 5:15am to catch the 6am boat back to Miniloc. It was exhausting but so worth it.
Catching up on everything
Well, this is embarrassing. No blog entries in over a week? For shame! But in my defense, lots of really fun stuff – tiring but fun stuff – happened between the whale shark sighting and today.
One last photo of the whale shark seen last February 8:
Hawksbill sea turtle hatchlings from Dilumacad on February 9: Continue reading “Catching up on everything”
Another year of life
First off, I’d like to thank all of the people who greeted me in person or via Facebook or text. It really means a lot that you took the time to do so. Second, another thank you to the people who graced me with even more of their time by coming to my little shindigs. I missed you guys.
Spent both the day of my birthday and the day before with good food and good friends. What more can you ask for?
Pre-birthday dinner in Marciano’s in Greenbelt 3 with friends from work. Well technically, they don’t work for the company anymore but you know what I mean 😛 Food was really good and arrived quickly but it took forever to get a table.
How I turned into a (Monopoly) millionaire
(This blog entry was previously titled “Monopoly, Movies, and Music” but I decided to chop up the long entry into two shorter ones.)
This past Saturday was practically perfect: a fun afternoon playing card games with geeky friends and a comics run, followed by an entertaining movie and a loud concert.
My friend Nick invited a bunch of us to go to the Monopoly Deal tournament organized by MaDaMi Events and Creative Services and co-sponsored by Bo’s Coffee scheduled for July 23 in Robinsons Galleria. He, Beej, Jay-R, Mark, and Carlo went to Megamall leg last July 16 and had a blast. I already knew how the game worked courtesy of the deck my sister got for her birthday so I didn’t hesitate in accepting the invite.
Backgrounder on the game: You know how Monopoly works, right? To streamline the boardgame into a card game, the new objective is to complete three property sets (the properties with the same colors). The standard properties and their colors are still in effect (i.e. dark blue Boardwalk and Park Place are one property set, the four Railroads are another set, etc.) and you collect rent by playing a Rent card. There are special Action cards unique to this version of Monopoly that will make your life more difficult: i.e. Deal Breaker lets you steal a complete set from another player, Sly Deal lets you steal a property from another player, while Forced Deal lets you swap properties with another player. The full instructions are found here.
